Maldives discuss expanding investment ventures with Yamaki Co. Ltd

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met President of Yamaki Company Limited Yoshihiro Kido and discusses investment avenues in the fisheries sector. The meeting was held on the side-lines of his official visit to Japan to attend the enthronement of Emperor Naruhito.

Director and Senior Executive Corporate Officer of Yamaki Katsuro Kido accompanied Yoshihiro at the meeting. The company manufactures and sells seasonings, dry seafood, and processed seafood.

Yours Maldivian Addu Katsuobushi Private Limited (YMAK) is a subsidiary of Yamaki, which is an important investment partner and presently Japan's most significant foreign direct investment in Maldives. The factory in Hithadhoo, Addu City annually produces about 200 tonnes of Katsuobushi, a form of dried, fermented, and smoked skipjack tuna, which amounts to approximately USD 200 million in revenue, adding value to the fisheries sector and contributes to the employment sector.

At the meeting, President Solih and officials of the company discussed ways to further expand investments from Yamaki in Maldives. He also thanked Yoshihiro for the long-term commitment of the company to produce Katsuobushi from skipjack tuna acquired in Maldives.
