Japan have been an international ally and partner to Maldives: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said Japan have long been a noteworthy international ally and partner to Maldives.

Addressing a special reception held in Tokyo for the Maldivian community in Japan, President Solih said Maldives and its people are thankful to the government and the people of Japan for the continued assistance in different areas of development. He highlighted Maldivians residing in Japan play a vital role in further boosting ties between the two nations. He also noted that Japan continue to provide assistance to Maldives in several crucial areas such as the education sector and climate resilience.

Speaking further, President Solih highlighted the close relations that have flourished for decades between Maldives and Japan. He noted that key objectives for his trip to Japan are to bolster those ties with the long-term partner and close ally, pursue developmental aid and assist Maldivians living in the country.

President Solih also said his administration has not halted the pursuit to restore harmony within the country, and added that every effort by his administration from day one resonates the need for restoring solidarity throughout the nation. He urged all Maldivians to express themselves peacefully and to promote unity amongst the community.

Following his address, the president also met and interacted with the members of the Maldivian community present at the reception.

President Solih is in Japan on an official visit to attend the official enthronement of the Japanese Emperor Naruhito, who ascended to the Chrysanthemum throne earlier this year, following the abdication of Emperor Akihito. He is scheduled to complete the visit on October 26.
