Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has met with senior officials of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and discusses about the Foreign Services Bill included in the Strategic Action Plan launched by the Government of Maldives.
During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the drafted bill and amendments were suggested to the foreign minister on the amendments needed to be brought to the draft. The administration plans to compile an Act on Foreign Services as part of the efforts to establish a separate institute within the government for Foreign Service. The primary responsibility of the Foreign Service is to protect interests abroad, implement foreign policy initiatives and train professionals.
Maldives first launched a professional Foreign Service in 1990.
