Revenue generated from customs tax, fees and charges increase

Maldives Customs Service has revealed the revenue generated from tax, fees and charges last September has increased when compared to the same month of last year.

Goods worth USD 240.142 million were imported in September 2018, while the amount rose to USD 246.633 million in September 2019, according to statistics provided by the customs service.

The statistics also showed an increase in the value of goods exported last September when compared to the same month of last year. In this regard, goods worth USD 8.826 million were exported in September 2018, while the amount rose to USD 10.773 million in September 2019.

The increase in amount of imports and exports also increased the revenue generated from tax, fees and charges. In this regard, the state received USD 17 million in September 2018, while the amount rose to USD 18.562 million in the same month of this year, which is an increase of 9%.

Meanwhile, UAE tops the countries Maldives import goods with a contribution of USD 46.730 million, which is 19% of the total imports. Goods worth USD 45.627 million were imported from China, while goods worth USD 24 million were imported from India.

Maldives exported goods worth USD 5 million to Thailand, which is 47% of the total exports. Other countries Maldives export goods include France, England and Germany, with goods worth USD 2.141 million exported to these European countries.
