Parliament of Maldives has opened opportunity for the public to submit opinion on the nominations submitted by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to be appointed as members of Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM).
President Solih nominated 10 individuals to be appointed to the electoral body. He prioritised former President of ECM Fuad Thaufeeg, current member of ECM Amjad Musthafa, Hassan Nazim and Mariyam Haneefa Khalid ahead of the other nominations.
Secretariat of Parliament said opinion on the nominations can be submitted until October 15.
The president submitted nominations for the position currently held by Amjad Musthafa whose term concludes on November 24. Out of the nominations, Fuad Thaufeeg was removed as the President of ECM by the Supreme Court of Maldives. The court also sentenced a 6 month jail sentence on him in 2014.
