Minister of Education Dr Aishath Ali has stated building the next generation of skilled teachers is crucial for students attaining quality education.
In her address on the occasion of World Teachers' Day, Minister Aishath Ali said Maldives must look closely to the recommendations made by international organisations to further enhance the sector. The minister said the pay package and the respect for teachers are great challenges in keeping them employed, adding the number of individuals leaving the teaching profession is increasing across the world. She also noted the lack of equipment and facilities is an obstacle in teaching students of different kinds, including children with special needs, speaking different languages and refugees.
She further spoke on the important role taken by the teachers in educating and shaping professionals for the future.
World Teachers' Day is marked annually on October 5 since 1994.
