Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has revealed the number of locals serving in the tourism sector is 17,000, which attributes to 47 percent of the work force in the sector.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the activities held to mark the World Tourism Day, Tourism Minister Ali Waheed announced 1,000 tourism establishments have been inspected within the past couple of months. In this regard, the minister said during the inspections it was identified that 36-thousand-301 individuals work in the tourism sector, noting out of that 17,138 are locals. Highlighting the amount is about 47 percent of the human resource in the sector, he mentioned it is an achievement for the sector.
Moreover, the tourism minister said such inspections were not conducted in the past, adding the findings will ease in shaping the sector. He also stated the findings will be incorporated in the Fifth Tourism Master Plan.
