Nationwide inspection of tourist facilities completed

Ministry of Tourism has completed a nation-wide inspection of all tourist facilities.

Speaking at a press conference, Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed explained the inspection of 1,061 service providers has been completed on September 20.

The inspection was carried in 20 atolls searching tourist facilities in all resorts, guesthouses, yacht marinas, and safari vessels in the Maldives. The minister explained 81 of these facilities were located in inhabited islands and the number includes 143 resorts, 3 yacht marinas, 10 tourist hotels, 535 guest houses and 194 dive centres.

The inspection was aimed at identifying how much the facilities adhere to the regulations. Minister Ali Waheed explained the inspections included checking services, facilities and safety measures in case of accidents such as fire. The inspection also included evaluating employers' providence of staff rights and the number of local staff employed in these facilities.

The minister also announced the facilities would be shared inspection reports, in addition to notifying them of measures for correction based on the inspection.

The ministry intends to inspect the facilities annually and take actions against employers who do not take counteractive measures.
