Authorities begin visual assessment following the tragic fire

The Government of Maldives has begun a visual assessment following the tragic fire that affected 4 warehouses, 6 residential buildings and killed a 46-year-old woman on Friday night.

Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development revealed the visual assessment is conducted by Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Maldives Police Service (MPS) and other relevant authorities. He added Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has detected toxic levels in the air in the area. He said the visual assessment will be conducted by taking the recommendations from EPA into consideration.

Over 400 people were evacuated and accommodated in temporary shelters following the most tragic fire in the capital city.
