Maldives and China exchange views to further strengthen bilateral relations

Maldives and China have exchanged views of further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

During a meeting held between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Abdulla Shahid and State Counsellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi in Beijing, discussions were held on furthering the cooperation between the two countries in areas relating to economic and social development.

During the meeting, Minister Wang Yi Minister Wang warmly welcomed Minister Shahid to China and reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to further strengthen the historic and friendly relations between the two countries. Minister Wang recognised the importance of furthering cooperation through the initiative for benefit of the two countries.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shahid reiterated support to the Belt and Road Initiative and One-China policy. Minister Shahid acknowledged and thanked the Government of China for the continued support to Maldives throughout its development journey, which is prominently featured across many areas, notably housing and infrastructure and human resource development.

Minister Shahid is on an official visit to China from September 19-20, on an invitation from Minister Wang Yi.
