Chinese company to conduct feasibility study on renewable energy in Maldives

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has contracted Chinese-based CYG Sunri Company Limited to conduct a feasibility study on renewable energy in Maldives. The agreement was signed by Managing Director of STELCO Hassan Mughnee and Vice President of CYG Sunri Wu Dian Peng.

Speaking after the signing, Mughnee stated STELCO aims to generate 50 percent of its energy supply from renewable sources. As part of the efforts, a team from CYG Sunri visited Ukulhas in Alifu Alifu Atoll to conduct a survey to launch a pilot project to transform the energy sources of the island to renewable energy.

After the outcome of the project in Ukulhas, STELCO aims to supply power from renewable sources of energy in other islands.
