Maldives is an important partner in the Belt and Road Initiative: China

Vice President of China Wang Qishan has acknowledged the importance of Maldives as a partner in the Belt and Road initiative. The Chinese vice president made the statement during a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Abdulla Shahid in Beijing.

During the meeting held at the Ziguang Pavilion, the vice president and the foreign minister discussed various aspects of the bilateral relations between the two countries. Minister Shahid applauded President Xi and the Government of China for bringing economic growth and social development for the people of China. He also reiterated the commitment of Maldives to the One-China Policy, highlighting the importance of China as a development partner to Maldives.

Vice President Wang and Minister Shahid stated the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries for mutually beneficial development goals.

Foreign Minister Shahid is on an official visit to China from September 19-20, on an invitation from State Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi.
