Health Ministry launches National Patient Safety Framework

Ministry of Health has launched the National Patient Safety Framework and Implementation Plan. Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen inaugurated the plan at an event held to mark World Patient Safety Day.

Speaking at the function, Minister Ameen urged health managers to prepare their staff well in order to deliver a responsible and a quality service to patients. He also requested heads of health service providers to dictate their leadership in working towards the betterment of service delivery.

Minister Ameen stressed the importance of sharing experiences of patients assisted through the National Patient Safety Framework. The minister also applauded the decision of World Health Organisation (WHO) to celebrate World Patient Safety Day. He highlighted it marks an important step in modern healthcare service.

The plan, formulated in collaboration with WHO, facilitates the safe provision of medical services in Maldives. The framework encourages training local health service providers to improve quality and offer a world class service in par with international standards. Furthermore, it aims to collaborate between government and private stakeholders.

On the occasion of World's First Patient Safety Day, the health ministry reiterated its commitments to formulate policies, create a safe work culture and provide care where safety of patient is a priority.
