No decline in ties with China: Maldives

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has affirmed the relations between Maldives and China are strong and that there have been no decline in the ties between the two countries.

Speaking to Maldivian students in a meeting held at The St. Regis Beijing as part of his official visit to China, Foreign Minister Shahid highlighted the efforts to further enhance the ties between Maldives and China. The foreign minister expressed it is the vision of the administration to have close relations with as many countries as possible, adding that China is an important international partner of Maldives.

Minister Shahid also noted the development assistance provided by China for Maldives. He assured the administration would work to attain more educational opportunities for Maldivian students from China.

During his visit, Foreign Minister Shahid is scheduled to call on Vice President Wang Qishan and State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and discuss strengthening relations between the two countries.

Maldives and China are also planned to sign three agreements to further enhance relations on sports, economic development and foreign relations.
