Managing Director of State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) Hassan Mughnee has said, acquiring training opportunities for Maldivians in engineering field is a key target of the company.
Speaking to press at the certificate awarding ceremony of "Medium Voltage Cable Termination Jointing" workshop, Mughnee said furthering the skillsets of technicians and engineers is essential and a key target as they require technical knowledge and a broad skillset.
Expressing the aspiration of STELCO to become a renowned institution in the training and development of Maldivian technicians and engineers, he explained the efforts of STELCO in trying to become a company that provides opportunities for locals. The purpose of the "Medium Voltage Cable Termination Jointing" workshop is to equip staff at STELCO with a multitude of job-related skills in order to attend to power problems the company face, he said.
STELCO is responsible for providing power to a significant population in Maldives in an environment where power consumption in increasing significantly. Mughnee explained that the staff require the capacity to tackle power problems. 15 staff from various departments at STELCO completed the program facilitated by staff from Engineering Desk Private Limited, Sri Lanka.
STELCO plans to organize more such programs to develop the capabilities and competencies of its staff.
