JP shall contest 2023 presidential race: Grasim

Leader of Jumhooree Party Gasim Ibrahim has announced a candidate from Jumhooree Party (JP) would contest the 2023 presidential election. The Member of Parliament for Maamigili constituency made the announcement at a special function held at the party headquarters to welcome new members.

He also stated, a candidate from JP contesting the 2023 presidential polls is a certainty and that whether it would be him or someone else, would be decided by a primary. The former parliament speaker also said, Jumhooree Party offers the best opportunities for a political career.

Noting that it was under the reform movement that the party is recruiting new members, Gasim said, the target is to increase the party strength to 30,000. He also announced efforts to establish branches of the party at all administrative regions and all islands.

Election of members to these administrative branches have been scheduled to November. At the gathering the Leader of Jumhooree Party also reiterated the party would remain steadfast in the defence of the current administration and refrain from creating discord among citizens.
