Speaker Nasheed brings culture, traditions and identity into limelight

Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has called on the nation, not abandon its culture, traditions and the "islander" identity. The former president made the statement addressing the annual prize giving ceremony of Ghiyassuddin International School, as the guest of honour.

Speaker Nasheed said, our way of life, attire, language and unique architecture signifies the rich Maldivian culture, traditions and heritage. Noting the negligence our heritage sites have experienced in the past 30 years Nasheed said that at times their were attempts to demolish and destroy heritage sites as well, regardless of the fact that many such places signify the beauty of island life. The former president stressed on the importance of valuing and preserving our heritage for future generations.

Addressing the prize winners, Speaker Nasheed urges students not to be boastful of their successes and instead remain strong in the face of failure.
