Speaker Nasheed vows to address concerns of constituents

Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has assured his constituents that he is confident of finding solutions for the concerns they have expressed. Former President Nasheed, who represents Machchangolhi Central Constituency made the statement addressing a meeting held with his constituents at Ahmedhiyya School, Friday night.

Noting that the major concern expressed by the constituents remain housing, Speaker Nasheed said although the government might not be able to issue housing under the "Hiya" scheme at affordable rates, flats to be developed under the current administration would be issued at a more affordable rate. In this regard, he revealed information about how the flats would be designed as well. He also expressed confidence that concerns raised regarding home construction loans would also be addressed as well.

Speaking on pending bills at parliament, the former president stressed on the importance of the amendment proposed to the Prevention of Terrorism Bill. He also spoke on how the Fisheries Bill, once it becomes law, would enhance fisheries. At the meeting, the former president answered several questions posed by his constituents.
