Former president criticises current administration

Former President and the President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has harshly criticized the current administration. The former president said, the administration has not been upholding its pledges and has disappointed the citizens.

He made the statement addressing a gathering held jointly by PPM and People's National Congress (PNC). Accusing that the state budget allocated for this year has already been emptied, Yameen said the current administration is yet to implement a massive project.

Referring to statements made by senior officials of the current administration that they are still cleaning up the messes made by the former administration, the former president said, most of the projects being implemented in several sectors are projects initiated by his administration.

Unheeded campaign pledges are piling up and that the multitude of politicians who ushered in the current administration should take responsibility for the disappointment that the citizens have been subjected to, the former president said.

He also criticized the amendments proposed to the Prevention of Terrorism Act. At last night's gathering, members of the PPM-PNC coalition criticised the current administration.
