Land allocation for diplomatic enclave in Hulhumalé

Ministry of Foreign Affairs decides to allocate plots of land to establish the diplomatic missions of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Hulhumalé phase two.

The purpose of building a diplomatic enclave for foreign missions and consulates is to maintain the security of the area with relative ease and to emulate the way it has been done in other countries.

The capital, Male' City remains too much congested and space allocation is extremely difficult to establish diplomatic missions. The foreign ministry has said the land lease will be conducted on reciprocity.

India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh had earlier leased land to establish Maldives missions.
