MPS and MNDF begin search operations on commission orders

Maldives Police Services (MPS) has expanded its operations to searching areas of sea, as part of the inquiry of Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances.

The special operations that started on Tuesday saw search of locations and investigation of persons in Male' and Hulhumale', in addition to investigations in Addu City.

Spokesperson of Police, Chief Inspector Izmia Zahir, clarified the ongoing operations have included searching three houses in Male'.

The operations have now been extended to searching areas of sea. The police stated officers from Office Crime Investigation Command, Forensic Service Department, Specialist Operations Department and Division Policing Command are Involved in the operation. The police plans to strengthen the law enforcement and security during the operation.

The police are investigating locations and people in accordance with implementing the court order issued upon the commission's request. There have been no arrests so far.

The police have also urged the public to send any information that supports their investigation to police contact number 119 and 3322111.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) also launched a special operation with arms on Tuesday.

While the police began the operation to investigate suspect locations and addresses, the details of MNDF operation have not yet been disclosed.
