Foreign Minister to make his first official visit to China

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid will undertake an official visit to China from September 19-20 on an invitation from State Councillor and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is the first visit of Minister Shahid to China since he assumed office last November.

During the visit, Minister Shahid will pay a courtesy call on Vice President of China Wang Qishan and hold bilateral talks with his counterpart Wang Yi. The ministers will review the gamut of bilateral relations between Maldives and China as well as discuss ways of further strengthening the historic and close ties that exist between the two countries.

China remain an important partner in the development of Maldives. The Government of Maldives reiterates its firm and unwavering commitment to its long-standing One China Policy and its support as a partner in the Belt and Road Initiative.
