Bar Council to receive funds after completion of requirements

Ministry of Finance has announced Bar Council of Maldives would receive annual funds after completion of the requirements.

The finance ministry said the finances requested by Bar Council would be granted after the required procedures have been completed. In this regard, all regulations concerning lawyers of the Bar Council have to be completed before October 12, including conduct of lawyers, appeal procedures, license and registration and penal measures.

President of Bar Council Maumoon Hameed has said the biggest challenge for the council is not receiving a financial budget. The Bar Council is currently working to finalise the budget and discussions are underway to carry out its programmes.

The Bar Council was established under Legal Profession Act to regulate the work of lawyers. The law was introduced to transfer the powers from the judiciary to the council.
