No further housing units to be constructed in Hulhumale' phase one

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has revealed no further social housing schemes will be conducted in Hulhumale' phase one.

HDC said no housing schemes would be conducted in Hulhumale' phase one, although private developers will be allowed to continue the ongoing projects. Private developers were contracted to construct 1,500 housing units in Hulhumale' phase one during 2016 and 2017.

Most of the housing units would be completed by the end of the year, with all 1,500 housing units to be completed by the end of 2021, according to HDC. The last batch of housing units were completed and handed over to the tenants last year.

HDC plans to allocate 50,000 square feet from Hulhumale' first phase as public space.

It is estimated that over 50,000 people live in Hulhumale' first phase.
