By-election for Maldives Bar Council to be held on September 28

The Bar Council of Maldives has decided to hold a by-election to elect a member for its Executive Committee on September 28.

In an announcement on Twitter, the Bar Council said a member needs to be elected to the vacant seat of the committee, adding plans to hold the election have been discussed with the Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) to make the necessary arrangements.

The seat in the Executive Committee became vacant when Aisha Shujoon Mohamed was appointed to the bench of the Supreme Court by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih after she had been endorsed by the parliament.

The Bar Council was created under the Legal Profession Act to regulate the work of lawyers and the legal profession in the country.
