Tourist arrivals from Japan increase by 15%

Tourist arrivals from Japan have increased by 15 percent by the end of July, according to the latest statistics published by Ministry of Tourism.

The statistics showed 25,426 tourists arrived in Maldives in the first 7 months of the year, which is a 15 percent increase from the 22,110 tourists who arrived from Japan during the same period last year.

Japan is the 9th largest market for Maldives. In this regard, 42,304 tourists arrived to Maldives last year, which is an increase of 3 percent compared to 2017.

Over 1 million tourists have arrived in Maldives so far this year. Tourism ministry has estimated over 1.5 million tourists will arrive in Maldives by the end of the year.

In a recent press conference, Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has said the aim is to reach the 1.5 million mark by November 17, the first anniversary since the administration assumed office.
