New framework of salaries to be implemented next year

Maldives National Pay Commission has said efforts are ongoing to implement the new framework of salaries for state employees next year.

The commission chaired by Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer said the new framework of salaries and allowances will be determined based on the research conducted with the assistance of other relevant institutions of the government and according to international best practice.

The commission will base the new framework on 96 categories of the employees. In addition to the salaries of employees, the commission will also determine the allowances and other benefits with the categorised framework.

National Pay Commission was established under National Pay Policy Act to determine a mandatory standard for the authorities which the constitution has vested the powers of determining the salary and benefit of the public servants and benefit given in resignation from or termination of employment.

Maldives is also working to establish a minimum wage for the first time.
