Will ensure necessary actions after probing Rilwan case: Home Minister

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has assured he will ensure that Maldives Police Services take necessary actions regarding the abduction and the murder of journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla.

In a tweet, Home Minister Imran said the case is now being investigated by the Presidential Commission on Investigating Murders and Enforced Disappearances. He expressed the relevant government authorities and the police force will take necessary steps to prosecute the culprits and that he would ensure necessary action is taken.

The home minister made the statement after the police revealed the commission investigating the case had said there was no sufficient evidence to arrest the two police officers who attempted to misguide the investigations and fabricate evidence to portray that Rilwan had died abroad. The commission had concluded that it lacks sufficient evidence to charge the two officers, according to the police.

Rilwan was reported missing in August 2014. On September 1, 2019, the commission diminished all hopes of finding Rilwan alive by declaring that he was abducted and murdered.
