Government taking immediate actions to combat terrorism: MNDF

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has assured it is taking immediate and necessary actions to maintain Maldives as a peaceful nation and ensure that the Policy of Zero Tolerance on Terrorism is implemented.

The Maldivian military forces made the statement during a meeting held by Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi, Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamal and senior official from MNDF with President of Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances Husnu Suood.

At the meeting, the defence minister and MNDF raised concerns about acts of terrorism spreading in Maldives. The minister and senior officers discussed the interim investigation report gathered by the presidential commission and raised grave concern for the increase in violence and extremism in Maldives.

MNDF assured it is taking necessary and immediate actions to ensure the safety, peace and protection of the citizens by collaborating with National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) and other government authorities.
