Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has said the main pledges made for the tourism sector by the administration will be fulfilled within two years.
The tourism minister highlighted the ongoing efforts to reform and enhance the services provided by the industry this year, adding the pledges will be fulfilled well before the end of the five-year term. The minister noted all the institutions involved in the tourism sector are working at a rapid speed and their contribution is crucial to reach the required goals. He expressed the administration has stepped up efforts to promote the tourism industry and increase tourist arrivals to the country.
Major goals for the tourism industry include the regular inspection of resorts and guest houses, the implementation of a five-year tourism master plan, promoting Maldives abroad as a travel destination and introducing cultural and sports tourism.
The statistics of the tourism ministry shows tourist arrivals have increased 17.2 percent compared to the same period of last year.
