MWSC to develop water and sewerage systems in four islands

Ministry of National Planning contracts Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) to develop water and sewerage systems in four islands.

In a ceremony held at planning ministry, the contract was signed by the Director General Fathimath Shana Farooq and Managing Director of MWSC Adam Azim. The projects, funded from Public Service Investment Programme (PSIP), will be conducted in Goidhoo in Baa Atoll, Kinolhas in Raa Atoll, Kudafari and Maalhendhoo in Noonu Atoll.

MWSC was awarded the designing, establishing, and connecting the system to the households. A reverse osmosis plant and a storage tank will also be developed in the islands.

A budget of over USD 2.9 million has been allocated for the project of Goidhoo, while the system in Kinolhas costs over USD 2.3 million. The cost of projects in Noonu Kudafari and Maalhendhoo totals over USD 2.4 million and USD 2.7 million respectively. Under the contract, MWSC must complete the projects within 2 years.

At the contract signing ceremony, Managing Director Adam Azim explained MWSC aims to deliver a fast and quality service. He added MWSC has the capacity to conduct 20 projects simultaneously.
