Parliament of Maldives has decided to go for recess without concluding the current term of work.
Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed declared that though the parliament goes on recess it has been decided to keep the current term until the parliament resumes work again. Speaker Nasheed said given the circumstances the works of the parliament may have to resume at any situation and therefore he urged the members to remain ready to resume work again at any moment.
Nasheed also requested Parliamentary Committee on National Security Services to continue their work on the report released by Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murder and Enforced Disappearances on the abduction and murder of Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla. He said the case is particularly a serious matter and members of the 241 Committee are obliged to collaborate with the Security Services Committee to investigate the matter.
Under parliamentary regulations, members must go for recess on August 29. However, with numerous unfinished issues on the agenda, the recess was postponed for September 5.
