Passports of 14 suspects held in connection with Rilwan's case

Passports of fourteen individuals linked to the abduction and murder of journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla have been held by authorities. The decision come at a time Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances had concluded the case on the abduction and murder of Rilwan in 2014. However, the identity of these individuals were not revealed.

On Tuesday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih pledged to take necessary legal actions in light of the findings by the commission. The findings of the commission indicated that some individuals linked to the case had fled and travelled to Syria. The report also stated attempts were made to fabricate evidence that Rilwan had died abroad fighting the war.

The commission was formed to investigate the murder cases and missing persons that has not been adequately investigated. The commission has the authority of an investigative body, including authority to arrest, investigate and request warrants.
