President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to take necessary legal actions in light of the findings by the Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances on the abduction and murder of journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla.
In light of the findings by the commission, President Solih said the administration will take all legal measures necessary on bringing the perpetrators to justice. He explained the commission was set up to find out what had happened to Rilwan, and bring all perpetrators to justice and take all necessary measures and precautions to ensure that no such accident is repeated in the future.
Parliament of Maldives has shared the summary of findings to the public. The report detailed the incident of Rilwan's abduction and murder including names of suspects, accomplices in detail. Rilwan has been missing since August 2014, with his whereabouts unknown until the commission concluded the investigation in to his disappearance.
The president established the commission on his first day in office, in an effort to carry out the state's responsibilities in ensuring justice for all, by conducting independent investigations for unresolved cases.
