Maldives and India have laid the foundation stone for the new Indian chancery building in Maldives.
The foundation stone for the new Indian chancery building in the Hulhumale' Diplomatic Enclave was jointly laid by Minister of External Affairs of India Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Abdulla Shahid. The ceremony was held as part of the official visit of Minister Jaishankar to Maldives to participate in the 4th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC).
The Government of Maldives has decided not to develop any new government office buildings in the capital, Male' City. In this regard, a 30,000 square feet area was allocated from Hulhumale' to develop foreign embassies and missions.
The new Indian chancery building will be the first embassy to be developed in the Hulhumale' Diplomatic Enclave.
