The newly appointed Supreme Court Judge Aisha Shujoon Mohamed has resigned from the executive committee of the Bar Council of Maldives to take up her responsibilities at the Supreme Court.
The Parliament of Maldives approved the nominations of Shujoon and Dr. Azmiralda Zahir to the Supreme Court bench on Tuesday.
In a tweet, the Bar Council stated Shujoon has resigned from the executive committee and expressed gratitude for her services. Shujoon was appointed to the Bar Council in July after she won the vote to take up a seat at the council under the Legal Profession Act.
Shujoon had previously worked as a judge at Civil Court and was one of the first female judges appointed in Maldives in 2007. However, she resigned in 2014.
