Fisheries Minister leaves for New Zealand

Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Zaha Waheed leaves for New Zealand to participate in two international meetings.

During the trip made from September 3-6, Minister Zaha will participate in Pacific Island Nation Marine Conservation and Maritime Security Summit. In addition, she will also participate in a workshop on marine spatial planning.

Both summits are organised in collaboration with Blue Prosperity Coalition, Environmental Law Institute, White Institute and IUCN Ocean and Coasts. The important discussions during the meetings will focus on marine spatial planning, enforcing and developing legal framework of good practices in marine spatial planning amongst island nations.

Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture expects these summits would enable Maldives to develop better strategies for marine spatial planning. The delegation from the ministry is expected to meet senior officials from the organisations to discuss prospective opportunities in utilising Maldivian marine resources. The meetings would also assist Maldives in planning and developing policies with the assistance of its international stakeholders.
