Prosecutor General's Office (PG Office) has announced it has begun work to provide justice for Rilwan, by collaborating with the Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murder and Enforced Disappearances. PG Office has assured the public it will take immediate and prompt measures after the commission had submitted the case report.
At a press conference held at the President's Office last Sunday, head of the commission Husnu Al Suood revealed investigators have successfully identified the people who abducted and then murdered local journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla. He further stated the commission has acquired enough evidence to prosecute the culprits.
Suood explained witness reports suggested there were two persons in the car that was involved in Rilwan's abduction, adding one of the suspects was Alif Rauf, who was previously prosecuted. However, Criminal Court had ruled there was no sufficient evidence presented by the state against Rauf, who had since travelled to Syria.
Furthermore, Suood expressed two motorcycles followed the car that took Rilwan to a dinghy. Rilwan was abducted near his residence in Hulhumale', taken to a boat, beheaded and thrown to the sea in August 2014, according to the summarised report compiled by the commission. The report includes the names of the individuals who were involved in the grievous act.
