Maldives and India have exchanged the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in criminal matters.
The treaty was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Abdulla Shahid and Ambassador of India to Maldives Sunjay Sudhir. Minister of External Affairs of India Dr. Subramanyam Jaishankar was also present at the function.
The agreement was signed at Paradise Island Resort, on the sidelines of the 4th edition of the Indian Ocean Conference (IOC).
During his visit, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar will also lay the foundation stone at the new plot for the Indian Embassy's Chancery in Hulhumalé Diplomatic Enclave. He will also call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
This is his first visit to Maldives since assuming office on May 31.
