Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe.
During the call held at Kurumba Maldives on the side-lines of the 4th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC), Minister Shahid welcomed Prime Minister Wickremesinghe and expressed confidence his visit to Maldives will further enhance the close cooperation with Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, Minister Shahid and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe discussed various matters of mutual interest, including the importance of forging people-to-people contacts between the two countries, the significant contribution of Sri Lanka in the socio-economic development of Maldives, cooperation in education and defence sectors between the two countries and also emphasised the close cooperation between the two countries at the regional and international front.
Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary of Maldives Abdul Gafoor Mohamed and Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka Omar Abdul Razzaq.
