President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced Maldivians would receive organ transplant services from hospitals in Sri Lanka. The president made the announcement during the joint statement with Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickramesinghe held at the President's Office following the agreements signed by the two countries.
A large number of Maldivians continue to travel to Sri Lanka for healthcare and many other purposes. Such an agreement between the two countries would ease healthcare services for Maldivians. Apart from healthcare, President Solih also noted the importance of co-operation between the two countries in the field of education and sports. He expressed the significance in co-operation with Sri Lanka over matters concerning terrorism. He also spoke on maintaining the regional security, adding the Indian Ocean Conference that begins tomorrow will address the issue of security in South-Asia and the Indian Ocean region.
Prime Minister Wickramasinghe also talked during the joint statement about the need for co-operation between the two countries and maintain peace and harmony in the region.
