Public Finance Committee approves Ali Hashim for MMA Governor

The Parliamentary Committee on Public Finances has approved the nomination to appoint Ali Hashim as the Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

The nomination of former Minister of Finance was approved unanimously by all members present at the committee meeting. The parliament also requested public opinion on the nomination. The committee explained there was no concern from the public against appointing Hashim as the governor of the central bank. After approval from the committee, the nomination will be forwarded for parliament approval.

Hashim served as the finance minister from 2008 to 2010 during the presidency of former President Mohamed Nasheed. His interview was the first live broadcast after the parliament recently passed a motion to broadcast live all interviews with nominations for independent commissions.

The post of governor has been vacant after the resignation of Ahmed Naseer in July 2019.
