More acceptable decentralisation system to be implemented in Maldives

Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has revealed efforts are underway with Local Government Authority (LGA) to amend Decentralisation Act to pave way for a more acceptable decentralisation system to be implemented in Maldives.

Speaking at a function held by Local Government Authority (LGA), Home Minister Imran said the administration prioritises empowering the local councils by handing over more authorities and powers. Highlighting the parliament plays an important role in achieving the aim of the administration, he said the councils would be financially steady when the amendments are passed.

The home minister also spoke on the importance of having close ties between the central government and the local councils. He also urged local councils to work with the citizens to get better results for the society.
