Parliament of Maldives has opened opportunity for the public to submit their views on the nomination proposed by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to be appointed as governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
President Solih has nominated Ali Hashim to be appointed as the new governor of the central bank. The nomination has been accepted by the Secretariat of the Parliament and forwarded to Parliamentary Committee on Finances for review. The announcement also suggested public can present their views on the nominations by email or a written document by 1100 hours on September 1.
The position of the governor of MMA has been left vacant following the resignation of Ahmed Naseer on July 24. He resigned after he was accused of influencing Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) at MMA from investigating and reporting a money laundering case which was believed to be related to the corruption scandal of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
Hashim had previously served as the Minister of Finance from 2008-2010 during the presidency of former President Mohamed Nasheed.
