President meets Thaa Atoll Council

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with the members of Thaa Atoll Council as part of his official visit to some islands in the atoll.

During the meeting, President Solih enquired about the needs and concerns of the people, ongoing developmental plans and future development plans of all the islands in the atoll.

Speaking at the meeting, the atoll councillors noted, with gratitude, the resident's concerns shared with the president in a previous meeting have all been addressed and stated the development projects budgeted are all ongoing. They noted the difficulties faced in regards to limited office space in the Secretariat of the Atoll Council, concerns regarding the progress of resort development in the atoll, concerns regarding the damaged ice plant in Guraidhoo, lack of practice grounds for licensing land vehicles and issues in the atoll ferry system. Further, they also touched upon improving health services and facilities in different islands of the atoll, renovation of the main atoll hospital, other healthcare facilities and health centres.

The president shared details of ongoing and future plans for developing the atoll and also stated the proposed amendments to the Decentralisation Act will exponentially increase the roles and responsibilities of the councillors and help address a majority of the concerns raised by them.
