Youth can play an active role to change society: Gender Minister

Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Shidhatha Shareef has stated youth can play an active role to change the society.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of Global Youth Peace Ambassador Programme 2019, Gender Minister Shidhatha said Maldives have shown in the past that youth can bring about significant changes to the society. In this regard, she noted youth played an important role in changing the political arena of the country.

Furthermore, the gender minister noted it is an aim of the administration to empower and encourage youth to participate in the development of the country.

Global Youth Peace Ambassador Programme 2019 is an intensive training programme organised by Regional Alliance for Fostering Youth (RAFY) Maldives in collaboration with Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Maldives National University (MNU), Institute for Economics and Peace, One Young World, Singapore Institute of Multidisciplinary Professions (SIMP), Ascendance Asia Singapore, International Youth Committee (IYC) to train young peace ambassadors globally complementing United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16.

Over 100 participants from 29 countries are taking part in the three-day programme.
