President ratifies changes to the National Social Health Insurance Scheme Act

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has ratified changes to the National Social Health Insurance Scheme Act. The bill approving the amendment was passed by the Parliament of Maldives on August 21.

The amended provision refers to section 42(a) of the act, specifying the ministry responsible for overseeing the country's overall national social health insurance framework. The overarching intention of the changes is to streamline government services regarding social health insurance by ensuring that it falls under the mandate of the appropriate ministry.

As social policy falls under Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services, henceforth the ministry will be responsible for the implementation of the provisions of the act, according to the President’s Office.

The amended act has now been published in the Government Gazette.
