Stakeholders have attended a working session to finalise the National Action Plan on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism.
The workshop, organised by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is held to review and revise the final draft of the national action plan, which requires the support from all branches of the government, in addition to civil society organizations and the private sector.
The opening ceremony of the workshop was participated by Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi, Ambassador of India to Maldives Sunjay Sudhir, parliamentarians, judges and government officials.
Delivering the welcoming remarks, Director General of National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) Zakariyya Mansoor highlighted the importance of a whole-of-society approach to seek sustainable solutions to address terrorism and violent extremism and thanked local and international partners for the unwavering assistance to preventing and countering terrorism and violent extremism in Maldives.
The National Action Plan on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism was formulated with the assistance from UNDP and the Government of Japan.
