Japan donate medical equipment and machinery to Maldives

The Government of Japan has donated equipment and machinery worth 2.663 million US dollars to further enhance the healthcare sector of Maldives. The donations were presented to Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen by the Ambassador of Japan to Maldives Keiko Yanai.

The donations from the Japanese Government include a dental x-ray machine, a dental unit, an ultrasound scanner, a portable ultrasound scanner, a portable digital x-ray machine, a transportable incubator and an emergency transport ventilator.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Keiko Yanai said Japan prioritises the development of the healthcare sector of Maldives. In this regard, the ambassador said Japan will always assist the efforts of Maldives to eliminate various forms of diseases. She said the assistance shows the close relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Ameen highlighted the assistance and support provided by Japan to the heath sector throughout the years has contributed to the enhancement of the health services in Maldives. Expressing gratitude to the latest donations, the health minister noted the equipment and machinery would be distributed to the main hospital in Maldives, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), and other healthcare facilities outside the capital city.

Japan is regarded as one of the most consistent and important development partners of Maldives.
