Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) Qasim Ibrahim has assured the party will not leave the government coalition.
Speaking at an event held at the main headquarters of the party. Parliamentarian Qasim Ibrahim maintained the government is stably conducting development efforts of the country, rejecting criticism that the government is running slower than expected. He added the previous administration also embarked on major projects and changes in the second year of the five-year term. He said the administration begins projects after careful evaluation and at a lower cost than before.
Qasim maintained as JP is a coalition partner of the government, its members must refrain from criticism but should rather support the efforts of the administration. The JP leader further highlighted the efforts to increase the membership of the party, noting the efforts of the party council to amend some policies to change the operation of the party. He highlighted all members can compete for positions within the party, assuring the party would hold primaries when electing members for the leadership, although previously the council appointed members to the high positions.
JP holds a vital portion of the coalition government and is the third largest political party in Maldives.
